About the job

Major League Baseball is on a multi-year mission to reimagine the fan experience of baseball. This role will lead the product efforts in shaping that vision and delivering engaging fan experiences through the mobile apps. The MLB app is one of the primary touch points for our fans into the world of baseball, and provides ways to go deeper into the baseball experience whether that is watching, participating or attending a game.

As the VP of Product for Mobile at MLB, you’ll be responsible for leading MLB’s company wide vision, strategy and roadmap for mobile and leading teams through creative experimentation and stellar execution. This role is leading product management and working closely with content, engineering, design and user research teams to deliver outstanding end-end experience for 70M+ baseball fans. It requires working closely with fans, baseball clubs and other product teams such as MLB.tv, Rally Games, and Ballpark Experiences to build a unique and personalized experience across the entire fan journey.

Our ideal VP of product has managed large scale consumer facing products, and is obsessed with solving for fan needs. They are creative, able to drive initially ambiguously defined projects across MLB, yet able to shift attention to detail and fan experiences when required. The successful candidate will operate well in close partnership with their engineering teams to make sure the ideas are able to be built.

You Will
  • Develop our multi-year vision, strategy and roadmaps for our Mobile application (and future fan delighting products and features)
  • Scope product requirements to build and maintain a resilient roadmap for our Mobile apps. Enabling new fan experiences that seamlessly integrate all the different facets of being a fan - attending games, watching, connecting and playing.
  • Work directly with fans and the different clubs to understand their needs and how we can solve for them
You May Be a Good Fit If You
  • Have experience with consumer facing media products that serve a large variety of users - from casual to avid.
  • Have demonstrated experience working with insights derived from quantitative and qualitative research to drive vision and direction.
  • Have the ability to dive deep into the details but keep the holistic fan experience as the guiding light.
  • Have the ability to bring clarity and decisiveness in the face of a wide variety of inputs (data, strategies, opinions, insights).
  • Organize and communicate complexity into an actionable strategy that pushes ideas forward across organizational boundaries.
  • Have built products by collaborating across engineering, analytics, marketing, design and other key stakeholders
  • Are fan obsessed. Your approach to product management is motivated by the chance to improve the fan experience for all.
  • Have experience managing complete redesigns of products from kick-off to ship.
  • Have an outcome focused approach that ensures that your product and team are successful at moving the needle in the market.
  • Have an iterative mindset, and are obsessed with continuous product improvement based on feedback and manage a varied portfolio of small, medium and large releases.
  • Have worked closely with marketing, design and data science leadership to ensure a coherent and inspiring marketing plan that fans will understand and value.
Qualifications
  • 10+ years in product management and development
  • 7+ experience in building mobile and website apps. With strong portfolio of shipped products of high quality and with real impact.
  • 7+ years of experience in attracting, managing, and growing high-performing teams, including managing and developing leaders.
  • Strong portfolio of shipped products that show a data-inspired strategy and analytics influenced decision making.
  • Compelling communicator and storyteller. Ability to demonstrate strong written, verbal and presentation skills
  • Experience with “organizational transformation” practices such as design thinking workshops and design Sprints.
  • Developed the careers of other Product leaders who have gone on to do great things.
