Your Mission

Blizzard Entertainment seeks a world-class public relations director to oversee the global communications program for the Diablo franchise. We are looking for a creative, diligent leader who multitasks efficiently in a fast-paced environment, communicates concisely and clearly, and can adjust and advocate for their perspective amongst other partners with varying levels of PR insight. The candidate thrives in and helps contribute to a culture of teamwork and is a motivated self-starter who can adapt quickly to changing factors while driving the communications strategy required to build the public’s passion for the Diablo franchise and Blizzard’s games, services, and brand.

The public relations director is a primary point of contact and trusted advisor for both external and internal partners, including executive-level collaborators. The ideal candidate has 10–12 years of public relations experience with at least seven years of proven experience leading or managing a team or a leading AAA franchise, has managed an international or multi-market program, is a Diablo player or is willing to become one. Experience working on AAA action-RPG titles across PC, mobile and/or console platforms is a plus. They are a strategic problem solver who can make informed decisions based on data and business priorities. They will work closely and collaboratively with the broader global communications team, marketing, the franchise development team and regional PR partners and will develop and drive Diablo’s global communications strategy. As someone well-versed in the latest trends and PR tactics, they are a savvy communicator capable of building and maintaining strong media relations with key channels across gaming, lifestyle and entertainment.

This role is anticipated to be a hybrid work position, with some work on-site and some work-from-home. The potential home studio for this role is Irvine, CA.

What you bring to the table:

  • Be a leader and key decision maker in discussions about overall brand positioning, comms pillars, tone, content strategy; advocate for PR needs and concerns as necessary to ensure global marketing, development team, company executives, comms leadership, and other partners have a clear and timely view of opportunities and challenges.
  • Develop robust global PR plans, while setting franchise-level PR objectives, KPIs, strategies and program roadmap, and managing the execution of game publicity through pre-launch, launch, and post-launch phases/live services.
  • Directly and indirectly lead local and international PR teams and agencies, fostering excellent collaboration and partnership, and a strong virtual team subculture—deliver excellent results through others.
  • Lead franchise-level global crises response discussions in partnership with broader communications team, in addition to creating plans that identify and address emerging challenges/issues that may affect global regions.
  • Foster deep, positive relationships with high-visibility gaming and mainstream media and influencers.
  • Develop a diverse spokesperson roster and support media trainings, staff interviews all the way up to and including executive-level spokespeople, and demo content to press as needed.
  • Uphold company values, lead by example and ensure all aspects of Diablo communications stay true to our values.
  • Be a key contributor to broader communications team values, vision, budget, organization, staffing, development/pathing, and process decisions, ensuring team stays innovative and adapts to changes in communications environment; provide strategic consultation on communications plans for other franchises and projects, and lead cross-franchise/interdepartmental projects as needed.
  • Consult on franchise-level investor relations and financial communications as needed.
  • Develop and manage franchise communications budget.
  • Travel domestically and internationally as required.

Minimum Requirements

  • A minimum of 10-12 years’ experience in PR
  • At least 7 years’ proven experience managing a team and/or AAA title/franchise.
  • Experience working on titles across multiple platforms.
  • A modern communicator who is articulate, strategic, a creative problem solver, well-versed in the latest PR trends and tactics, and possesses a proven track record of results.
  • Experience working on PR for brand collaborations with different forms of pop culture including celebrity, music, movies and more with a proven track record of brand storytelling via non-endemic media.
  • Experience delivering formal presentations to executives and other business leaders.
  • Team motivator and coach with proven leadership skills.
  • Able to quickly compose and edit a variety of creative and business-oriented texts and messaging documents that meet company standards, on deadline.
  • Experience working with global leadership and coaching local and regional teams and agencies to translate global goals into actionable regional strategies.
  • Possess excellent interpersonal and diplomatic skills, while maintaining an ability to always stay focused on the work at hand.
  • Able to confidently communicate about Blizzard products with the press and public.
  • Very organized, diligent and driven to consistently meet deadlines.
  • Crisis management communications experience.
  • Bachelor's degree in public relations, marketing, journalism, or business, or equivalent work experience.

In the U.S., the standard base pay range for this role is $120,600.00 - $223,110.00 Annual. These values reflect the expected base pay range of new hires across all U.S. locations. Ultimately, your specific range and offer will be based on several factors, including relevant experience, performance, and work location. Your Talent Professional can share this role’s range details for your local geography during the hiring process. In addition to a competitive base pay, employees in this role may be eligible for incentive compensation. Incentive compensation is not guaranteed.
