Major League Soccer’s Strategy and Business Intelligence group is tasked with supporting strategic decision making and resource allocation across the League – with a focus on driving fan growth, revenue capture, and operating efficiencies – by providing impactful data driven insights, analysis, and recommendations. The group is seeking a new Director who will support the league by aligning long and short-term strategy with data and providing leadership with business intelligence and data driven insights. This hire will lead a team who oversees reporting and analytics in all areas of Fan Engagement (e.g., TV, Ticketing, Consumer Products, Social, etc.).  This hire will report into the Vice President of Strategy & BI and is highly curious and analytical, able to distill clarity from complexity, and has an entrepreneurial desire to innovate.

Responsibilities

  • End-to-end ownership of Fan Engagement reporting and analytics that visualizes data to meet the needs of both internal and external team members and derives insights aligned to enterprise Fan Engagement strategy.
  • Deliver regular League & Club Executive facing Fan Engagement updates through skilled PowerPoint presentations (weekly, monthly, quarterly, annually) and ad-hoc reports across MLS tentpole events.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with senior stakeholders as a thought leader to align Enterprise and Department goals to data and metrics.
  • Establish a team-vision and lead a team of analysts as the Fan Engagement subject matter experts across the organization both at the league and club level. This includes instilling standard methodologies & processes, managing workloads and deadlines, and continually training and upskilling team members.
  • Effectively communicate and socialize actionable results and findings throughout the organization in a simple and intuitive narrative format.
  • Partner with technology team to continually integrate the tools, methods, and processes supporting analysis.
  • Manage hiring and onboarding process by interviewing, selecting, orienting, and training employees.
  • Accomplish team results by communicating job expectations and managing the Performance Management process:
    • Plan, monitor, and review performance.
    • Coach and counsel team members.
    • Develop and implement department procedures and productivity standards and reinforce Company policies.
    • Develop personal growth opportunities for employees.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Marketing, Math, Statistics, Economics, Computer Science, or similar domain.
  • 8+ years of experience in a quantitative analysis role, preferably at a streaming or subscription service.
  • Practical experience with subscription modelling (churn, LTV, etc.), streaming content and viewership.
  • 5+ years of leadership experience mentoring and growing a team of analysts.
  • Experience with enterprise level reporting and ad hoc analysis to drive large, complex, cross-functional reporting that aligns to enterprise strategy.
  • Adept technical/functional experience in Excel, BI Tool(s), and SQL.

 

Required Skills

  • Background in analytics with a focus on marketing, digital media, and/or TV analytics and research, preferably in live sports.
  • Proven track record of deriving insights from large data sources and presenting in a clear and concise narrative form.
  • Adept in a query language (SQL).
  • Adept in a BI tool (Power BI, Tableau).
  • Adept in Excel and PowerPoint.
  • Experience with a programming language (R, Python).
  • Experience with statistical data analysis.
  • High-level commitment to a quality work product and organizational ethics, integrity, and compliance.
  • Superior organization, project management skills, and attention to detail.
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast paced, team environment.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to effectively communicate, both verbally and written.
  • Demonstrated decision making skills with a solutions-oriented approach.

 

Desired Skills

  • Knowledge of the sport of soccer.
  • Ability to travel and to work non-traditional hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.

 

Total Rewards

Starting Base Salary: $130,000 – $175,000. MLS/SUM base salaries are contingent upon several factors including individual qualifications, market financials, and operational business needs.
