Talladega Superspeedway was created as a palace of speed in 1969 by NASCAR founder Bill France, Sr., who coined it “the Greatest Race Track in the World.”  At a mammoth 2.66-miles with 33 degrees of banking in the turns, it is NASCAR’s Most Competitive venue. The “Fun” track prides itself on being family friendly, especially with the introduction of the Talladega Garage Experience in 2019 where guests are immersed into motorsports like never before. The host of two major NASCAR weekends a year, the iconic ribbon of asphalt is easy accessible off I-20, located between Birmingham, AL, and Atlanta, GA.

 

NASCAR is seeking an Event Marketing Assistant who will assist in all facets of marketing events at Talladega Superspeedway. Based in Talladega, AL, at Talladega Superspeedway, this key role on our team is responsible for a variety of functions in support of the famous 2.66-mile venue, plus assisting the other NASCAR Southeast Region tracks (Daytona International Speedway and Homestead-Miami Speedway). This position will report to Talladega’s Event Marketing and Business Operations departments. The ideal candidate must be detail-oriented with a strong willingness to learn, desire to work in a fast-paced environment, and ability to work long hours. Some travel is also required.

 

This position will be responsible for the following: 

  • Learning the intricacies of the Talladega Superspeedway brand and Event Marketing Department while strengthening his or her own professional attributes

  • Researching and developing new marketing ideas to expand current brand initiatives

  • Managing grassroots events, including seeking out opportunities, programming, and leading activations leading up to TSS Fall and Spring race weekends

  • Assisting the Event Marketing Manager with media promotions and activations, including managing the relationships with radio and TV outlets

  • Assisting in all facets of TSS NASCAR weekends, including fan events and activations, as well as Kid’s VIP programming, etc.

  • Analyzing fan experiences throughout the sports industry to enhance weekend event programming at Talladega and across the Southeast Region

  • Cultivating ideas to improve fan engagement using digital outlets & social media (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, etc.)

  • Strategizing with the Marketing team on ways to better engage with the millennial audience and draw in new and diverse fans

  • Assisting in developing content and messaging ideas for social media leading up to and during promotional events and race weekends

  • Assisting in developing content and messaging ideas for emails directed to fans

  • Other duties as assigned

 

Events to include:

  • YellaWood 500 Event Weekend (September 30-Oct 1, 2023) – Talladega Superspeedway

  • GEICO 500 Event Weekend (April TBD, 2024) – Talladega Superspeedway

 

To participate in this role, individuals should be enrolled in college courses or have graduated within the last 12 months. Flexible start/end dates, 24 plus hours per week, with some evenings and weekends required. Race week and event weekend hours will vary. Availability is required August 1st through October 15th, 2023, and February 27th through May 3rd, 2024. Must have excellent driving record for operating company vehicles.

Travel to other Southeast Region events outside of Talladega, if required, will be paid for by the Company.

Qualifications: 

  • Currently pursuing a degree in Marketing or Sports Management

  • Strong organizational and communication skills 

  • A strong worth ethic and willingness to learn and understand NASCAR brand requirements and protocols, as well as sales systems, databases, and partnership management/activation

  • A team player who is committed to the success of the events

  • Strong attention to detail and the ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment

  • Proficiency in multiple computer programs (Adobe, Microsoft Word, Power Point, Excel, etc.)

  • Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays

  • Willingness to learn and maintain a positive attitude

  • Desire to engage with fans and oversee data cultivation at offsite events

  • Ability to lift over 50 lbs.

 

Previous event or sports experience and basic knowledge of motorsports and NASCAR a plus
