Position Description 

The Director of Soccer Growth, reporting directly to the Head of Soccer Growth Strategy, is a strategic and operational leader who will be responsible for driving major strategic projects and business management efforts that are critical to growing the game of soccer and fostering best playing environments. They will work closely with the Chief Soccer Growth Officer, departmental leadership team, cross-functional leaders and staff, and broader ecosystem stakeholders to design and carry out key priorities to grow participation and empower our ecosystem in the amateur and professional space. They are natural leader and relationship builder, with experience scaling programs to achieve specific objectives. 

 

Primary Responsibilities

  • Act as a key contributor to the overall strategic vision and operational roadmap for USSF’s soccer growth and environments business line.
  • Work across the department and cross-functionally to accomplish major strategic projects and objectives, including through core project management functions (e.g., project goals, key deliverables, stakeholder management, etc.).
  • Forge member and non-member partnerships that meaningfully advance the number of participants in the amateur and professional ecosystem.
  • Design and implement effective operating models that continually improve USSF’s service and product delivery capabilities and foster positive working relationships among our key stakeholders.
  • Perform key qualitative and financial analyses for major projects, with the ability to create analytical insights, package those into effective communications, and use them to inform key decisions. 
  • Proactively identify and execute on new opportunities, including new programming, partnerships and monetization opportunities given ecosystem trends 
  • Contribute to the development and management of soccer growth and environments key performance indicators (KPIs).
  • Provide customer-centric strategies that balance governance / compliance and benefits with our offerings.
  • Identify and implement digital tools and resources to enhance soccer growth and development.
  • Display expert knowledge of applicable governance and regulatory standards in the amateur and professional soccer ecosystem.
  • Drive clarity and direction in ambiguous situations and display confidence and optimism with decision-making. 
  • Translate communications between executives and staff to align on path forward. 
  • Embody authentic, people-first leadership characteristics to form trusting relationships with staff.
  • Own end-to-end projects and workstreams, including developing approaches and delivering key outputs with a high degree of quality.
Requirements

Minimum Qualifications

  • Passion for the sport of soccer, specifically the amateur and professional ecosystem
  • B.S./B.A. or Master's Degree from an accredited college or university required
  • 7-10+ years professional experience, preferably in a strategic and/or operational role (top-tier strategy or management consulting firm, sports/media/entertainment, etc.) 
  • Experience working in the soccer ecosystem directly supporting programs for participation is a plus
  • Strong and empathetic leader with proven ability to build high-performing teams
  • Must have a strong belief in growing diversity and inclusion in soccer
  • Must have experience building scalable programs that deliver results against priority objectives, including designing and delivering underlying operating models
  • Heavy emphasis on experience building and owning P&Ls and forecasting models
  • Proven problem solver
  • Strong ability to influence key stakeholder partners and built trusting relationships
  • Collaborative and passionate about growing the game of soccer at all levels, including youth and adult participation
  • Capable of working in fast-paced and demanding environments
  • Ability to deliver high quality work and execute under pressure/deadlines
  • Must be able to connect “micro” details to the “macro” vision and mission
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills 
  • Proficient experience with Microsoft Suite (Word, PowerPoint, Excel, and Outlook)
