PURPOSE OF ROLE

Strategize and action all communications and media efforts for Arrow McLaren IndyCar Team in the NTT INDYCAR Series as a part of McLaren Racing’s larger marketing efforts in North America.

 

ROLE DIMENSIONS

Build and maintain top-notch and sincere relationships with media, team members, IndyCar personnel and community members to deliver communication campaigns for the racing team.

Amplify McLaren Racing and the team’s brand through strategic media efforts and creative campaigns in and out of season.

Lead reporting efforts for communication and media impact and manage the departmental budget.

Travel to NTT INDYCAR SERIES events, including additional tests and PR events throughout the year. Includes some international travel as required.

 

PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES

  • Serve as lead for communications and media relations for Arrow McLaren IndyCar Team in the NTT INDYCAR SERIES
  • Create, execute, and manage against the Arrow McLaren communications plan and strategy
  • Manage and facilitate all incoming media requests for AM drivers, management and employees
  • Provide on-site media relations and crisis communications for AM at every NTT INDYCAR SERIES event including (but not limited to) races, tests, and exhibitions
  • Provide communications support, briefs and guidelines to AM drivers and executives
  • Serve as the motorsport communications expert to our partners, including support of partners in their key activations and moments throughout the year
  • Develop relationships with key series and partner communications contacts
  • Oversee and manage all internal and partner reporting including setting and measuring against clear KPIs
  • Serve as contact for team agencies including photo, multimedia and public relations agencies
  • Craft, own, and distribute all team internal and external messaging with the support of your team
  • Work collaboratively in a close team environment, supporting various departments across our marketing and competition groups

Job requirements

JOB REQUIREMENTS

  • Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Journalism, Business Administration, or equivalent.
  • Minimum of 5 years progressive experience in a corporate communications function
  • Experience writing press releases and working with external media partners preferred
  • Background working with external Media, specifically in a sports ideal
  • Reporting and Analytics experience
  • Vendor and agency management
  • Proven ability to successfully collaborate, inform, and execute across the business in a matrix reporting environment
  • Communications/content strategy planning experience, including crisis & sponsor/partner communication
  • Position located in Indianapolis Indiana, requiring weekend travel from February through September (17 races)
  • Microsoft Office Suite, including Adobe Creative Suite
