Intro:

Are you the type of communications professional who thrives on building brands and leveraging culture as a way to expand audience, engagement and brand love?  If so, read on. The New York Mets is searching for a Director of Brand and Culture Communications to join the Communications team.  

 

Summary:

The Director of Brand and Culture Communications is a new position and will have oversight for developing communications and strategies that target existing and new fans through all channels (traditional media, social, any new mediums).  The Director is collaborative, proactive, responsive, detail-oriented, and creative thinker comfortable in a high-profile role and fast-paced environment. They are passionate about sports and are deep into culture, fashion, music and current and upcoming tech/communication channels both on behalf of the Club and the Players.

 

In a highly matrixed environment, the Director will work both independently and directly with several teams, leaders, players and other stakeholders on a variety of topics.  The Mets believe in the strength of community and this role is designed to build significant engagement with influencers and culture outlets to tap into the intersection of baseball and culture.  

 

The Director must have an inquisitive mind to not only quickly develop a working understanding of the trends and developments, but also understand how they affect the Club, Players and fans in general. They are obsessed about breakthrough content and communications that set our organization and players apart as a global brand.

 

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Develop a brand communications framework for the organization that creates integrated strategic and executional decision making.

  • Drive baseball lifestyle and culture globally by developing a social campaigns and communications strategy off the field including fashion, music, art, and food.

  • Be a constant source of ideas for breakthrough brand messaging, spokespeople, target partners and cultural institutions/trends.

  • Create a method for evaluating Player interest and involvement on social, new media channels and participation in targeted events and programs.

  • In partnership with Player Relations, Community, Marketing and Communications drive for integration via new forms of collaboration tools to ensure all activities are fully leveraged across the organization.

  • Collaborate with Players to create social activation/communications storytelling opportunities around baseball player lifestyle around the city and away cities. 

  • Support players where appropriate in advancing their social profile in a way that ladders up to brand communications objectives and cultural impact.

  • Connect Players to the community through cross-sports collaborations, activations around the city; identify opportunities for Players not involved in social.

  • Manage Club outreach and oversight with celebrities who attend games; develop consistent experience, create plan to expand this group across various aspects of culture and increase engagement, attendance, participation, Player involvement where appropriate.

  • Develop relationships with counterparts at other sports teams in NY and beyond to fully leverage this moment for the Mets.

  • Support internal communications with fresh ideas for employee engagement in culture and Player activation as appropriate. 

  • Identify and develop KPIs for all brand communications including dash boards and consistent reporting tools.

 

Qualifications: 

  • Bachelor’s degree in English, communications, journalism, marketing and/or other communications related fields; OR demonstrated capability to perform job responsibilities with a High School Diploma/GED and at least five years of previous relevant experience.

  • Deep experience and interest in culture.

  • Proven track record in developing breakthrough communications and social activation that drives cultural conversation and measured impact.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills

  • Project management / communication campaign experience

  • Strong organizational, planning, and time-management abilities to be able to produce multiple projects simultaneously under tight deadlines

  • Attention to detail while providing exceptional results with little supervision

  • Self-motivated and able to work both independently and in a team environment

  • Ability to handle highly sensitive information with discretion

  • Creativity with an eye for detail and design

  • 7-10 year’s experience in communications

  • Spanish fluency desired.

Salary Range:

$89,872.65 - $119,830.20
