Basketball Programming Coordinator
 
Position Overview:
The Chicago Bulls are seeking a highly motivated and organized Coordinator to join our growing Basketball Programming team. We are seeking an individual who is passionate and knowledgeable about the game of basketball with a background in programming (camps/clinics/events), is detail oriented, and someone who has the ability to work in a fast-paced environment of a professional sports organization.
 
In this role, you will collaborate with several departments across the Bulls front office to support the creation and activation of basketball programs focused on brand strategy and fan development as well as supporting event and grassroots projects aimed at reaching and connecting with new and existing fans through the game of basketball.
 
Responsibilities:
As a Basketball Programming Coordinator, you will have hands-on involvement in a variety of initiatives that support our strategic direction. This individual will report to the Manager of Basketball Programming to create and activate a variety of basketball programs including Youth Hoops in-season programs, Youth Hoops summer programs, and basketball programs for a variety of different departments across the organization. In addition to basketball programming, this individual will be responsible for the support and execution of a variety of programs and activations for Bulls Kid Nation.
 
More specifically, you will be responsible for the following:
  • Help with the creation, planning, and execution of all Youth Hoops year-round programming which includes in-season and summer camps, clinics, and events.
  • Support the creation, planning, and/or execution of basketball programs for all departments across the front office to execute basketball programming deliverables and enhance department initiatives through collaboration.
  • Assist with the management, creation, monitoring, and tracking of all programs and revenue through registration software
  • Maintain and build relationships with new and existing off-site basketball facility partnerships, including majority of communication with these partners.
  • Lead the creation of all necessary paperwork for programming.
  • Help with ideation for new basketball programming across the front office, including ways to continue to scale and improve existing programming.
  • Lead the ordering, reordering, and inventory management of all basketball programming and Bulls Kid Nation giveaways and equipment including t-shirts by size, basketballs, bags, coaching equipment, Bulls Kid Nation Zone activations, All-Star member kit items, in-game prizing/items, and more to ensure we have ample supply while managing costs.
  • Create the load in and loud out schedule and execute load in/out of all basketball equipment and giveaways at necessary event locations including gathering and organizing equipment and giveaways, inflating participant basketballs, transportation, distribution, etc.
  • Assist with data entry needs for all basketball programming.
  • Strategize with the marketing team for all promotional needs including but not limited to social media, in-game and out of home promotion, and more.
  • Assist with the scheduling of part-time staff when needed.
  • Draft email communications, talking points, run of shows and basketball programming plans for customers and staff.
  • Monitor and provide customer support through the youth and family inbox.
  • Assist in developing and updating comprehensive programmatic calendars and complimentary activation/event schedules.
  • Ensure projects stay on track by balancing multiple moving pieces simultaneously from origin to execution.
  • Lead planning logistics for key basketball programming and assist on Bulls Kid Nation initiatives including development of timelines, creative assets, promotional execution, on-site activation, and pre/post communication needs.
  • Lead all Bulls Kid Nation events including activation of the Bulls Kid Nation Zone at all Chicago Bulls home games and select Windy City Bulls games, all year-round off-site events, and additional in-game activations during tent pole youth and family games.
  • Track all invoices and expenses against designated budget.
  • Support Basketball Programming team with development of presentations, special projects and coordination of group meetings.
  • Participate in the development of strategy, activation, advertising, and miscellaneous basketball programming related efforts.
  • Create and deliver detailed recaps for org-wide initiatives aimed at providing a snapshot of the team’s efforts, impact, and key insights from the activation.
Skills & Experience:
The team is looking to place a highly organized self-starter who works well across departments and has direct experience in this role. You could be a potential match for this role if you have a strong mix of the following:
  • 1+ years of relevant work and/or internship experience in basketball, programming, recreation, marketing, professional sports, event planning and execution, or related areas with a focus on basketball preferred.
  • A strong sense of modern-day basketball camp/clinic/event best practices, including understanding how to create and execute camps and clinics.
  • Coaching experience is a plus.
  • Excellent writing, proofreading and organizational skills with meticulous attention to detail.
  • Highly skilled in project management, specifically working on large project implementations that require teamwork to meet deadlines and deliverables.
  • Working familiarity with data capture, registration software, inventory management, creative development, and events.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and flexibility to work within a rapidly changing environment.
  • Ability to communicate articulately and confidently with individuals at every level of the organization both written and verbally.
  • Ability to lead meetings and prioritize multiple projects at once.
  • Experience with managing a budget for large and small work projects.
