Group Overview:

The NFL Media Strategy & Business Development (“BD”) department oversees the strategy, distribution, and licensing of NFL content across all media platforms. Its core mandate is to grow the business of the National Football League by distributing content in a manner that reaches and engages both new and existing fans, increases revenue for the business, and creates long-term strategic value for the 32 member clubs. The group’s work includes market and competitive analysis, new business development, business and rights valuation, deal negotiation, go-to-market process management, and ongoing execution.

 

Role Overview:

The Director of Digital Media Business Development will manage a portfolio of existing partnerships as well as help identify and pursue new opportunities to distribute NFL content digital media and video streaming platforms.

This role requires a strong leader who can combine a solid understanding of the overall media and digital media space with a comprehensive foundation in business analysis.

Responsibilities include producing presentations and analyses for executives and external partners, leading regular meetings with business partners and internal stakeholders, and thoughtfully managing up and down to communicate updates and drive business goals.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Manage and grow existing NFL media partnerships across major technology platforms including Twitter, YouTube, Snapchat, Facebook, Instagram, Reddit, and TikTok
  • Play a meaningful role in all aspects of NFL media partnerships, from working with large-scale existing partners to proactively identifying potential new business partners
  • Cultivate strong relationships in the media and technology marketplace to enable future commercial opportunities
  • Conduct financial analyses and proposals for new business opportunities
  • Communicate market and deal updates to senior executives and team ownership
  • Build strong working relationships with external partners and internal cross-functional groups (e.g., Marketing, Legal, Finance, Sales, Sponsorship, etc.)

  • Contribute to positive group culture to foster high performance, efficient processes, and ongoing professional development
  • Effectively communicate within group and cross-organizationally on time management, prioritization and expected deliverables

Required Qualifications & Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree and a minimum of eight (8) years of experience in a related role at a leading media company, management consulting firm, private equity or venture capital firm, or investment bank
  • Deep interest in digital media industry, especially streaming video and social media platforms
  • Active consumer of digital media content and active fan of spectator sports with an ability to relate to the user experience of sports fans and visitors to NFL Media properties
  • Successfully demonstrated knowledge of media trends (traditional and digital), evolution of platforms/consumption, and business dynamics/models of media properties
  • Extensive financial analysis and financial modeling experience
  • Proven track record negotiating commercial agreements
  • Experience in developing and implementing long-term business plans and strategies
  • Capable and persuasive communicator / negotiator who can make arguments clearly and succinctly, both verbally and in writing
  • Strong interpersonal skills
  • Ability to build and foster broad network of relationships
  • Proven manager with demonstrated experience leading teams, developing professionals, setting individual and group priorities and fostering a high performing, professionally gratifying culture
  • Unwavering commitment to honest and ethical business interactions

 

Preferred Qualifications

  • Specific experience within the social and / or digital media industries strongly preferred
  • Minimum of five (5) years of management experience
  • MBA a plus, however not required

  • Active fan of spectator sports in order to relate to the user experience of sports fans and visitors to NFL Media properties
  • Proven ability to think strategically and analytically
  • A team player who is capable of interacting cross-functionally and at all levels of the organization
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, including the ability to efficiently produce written materials in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
  • Strong attention to detail

Salary / Pay Range

The NFL expects to hire for this position near the middle of the range. Only in truly rare and exceptional circumstances, where an external candidate has experience, credentials or expertise that far exceed those required or expected for the position, would the NFL consider paying a salary or rate near the higher end of the range.
 

Terms / Expected Hours of Work

  • NFL employees are required to work 40 hours per week. Indicate whether or not the role will require overtime (time worked in excess of 40 hours) and/or weekends.
