The Director of Stadium Operations is responsible for the planning, execution, and continuous improvement for all Stadium Operations specific to all Chicago Bears events at Soldier Field. This role is responsible for daily management of applicable projects, implementation of NFL policy and procedure requirements, people development, and business continuity. A critical emphasis of this position will be to infuse and implement KPIs/metrics to drive continuous improvement for Soldier Field while also serving as a lead on all operational functions for a future stadium project. The ideal candidate will have experience overseeing all operational functions a sports venue, managing projects with multiple stakeholders/vendors, and using analytics to improve efficiencies. 

This is a salaried position working out of the Bears Soldier Field office (1410 Special Olympics Drive, Chicago, IL) required to work evenings and weekends. Please note, Soldier Field is owned and operated by the city of Chicago/Chicago Park District and managed by ASM Global. This role’s oversight is focused solely on Chicago Bears events.

Responsibilities

Planning & Continuous Improvement 

  • Develop standard operating procedures, cost standards, revenue capture and performance metrics for all aspects of stadium operations 
  • Work closely with SVP, Fan/Guest Experience & Stadium Operations to establish in & off-season management cadence with defined performance, revenue, and cost metrics
  • Support strategic sourcing process including collecting requirements, RFP preparation/administration, recommendation development, negotiations, contracting and performance management
  • Serves as project manager for all Bears related stadium improvement projects including but not limited to: Wi-Fi and technology upgrades, construction/improvement projects, environmental efficiencies, safety and security
  • Provide input on corporate sponsorship opportunities in stadium and assist with stadium signage plans with a focus on forward thinking, cost efficient, and revenue generating opportunities
  • Support refinement and implementation of Stadium Operations Continuity Plan
  • In conjunction with Bears Security, and Safety and Operational peers, support renewal and adding of certificates to the stadium portfolio, including Safety Act and other public safety certifications, LEED, NFL certifications and others to maintain Soldier Field as one of the top stadium’s in the NFL
  • Assist Head Groundskeeper on field/stadium inspections, re-sods and annual NFL reviews as necessary 
  • Be an active participant of relevant new Stadium Development committees with a focus on operational functions

Execution 

  • Ensure implementation and compliance with all NFL policies and protocols
  • Serve as organizational lead directing stadium operational aspects of gameday and all other Club events at Soldier Field
  • Create, amend, and communicate with key stakeholders on relevant policies and guidelines, including NFL Game Operations Manual
  • Be lead contact for Football Operations on gameday and stadium related needs 
  • Be lead contact for Football Communications on gameday and stadium related needs

Management

  • Support day-to-day management of relevant vendor relationships (Stadium Operator, Guest Services, Security, Concessions, Shuttling, Audio Visual, Event Support, etc.) including regular communication and accountability for process improvement
  • Oversee departmental budget. Conduct monthly review of spend against approved allocation and reconcile invoices as needed.
  • Actively leads and engages in the mentoring, coaching, and supervision of direct reports
  • Support gameday oversight of vendors and associated staffing (1,000+ for relevant events) 
  • Attend all necessary NFL and stadium-related conferences and meetings

Qualifications

  • Minimum of 10 year’s experience managing large venue events, high volume operations environments or relevant experience
  • Bachelor’s Degree in related field 
  • Experience with vendor management and project management in a sports facility capacity  
  • Must have solid knowledge of operational excellence with a focus on safety & security as well as delivering excellent service to event attendees
  • Must be organized, manage multiple projects at times, and comfortable in ever-changing work environment
  • Strong computer skills (Microsoft products) as well as data management and analytical skills
  • Familiarity with process mapping, design, and lean principles preferred
  • Able to work non-traditional hours, in non-traditional settings, with flexibility to work holidays, weekends and nights
  • Must be able to work outside in all weather conditions. Ability to perform physical tasks and lift items up to 50lbs.
