Who are we hiring?
In coordination with the department head, position directs and assists in the development and coordination of communications and public relations activities in support of the NY Rangers hockey communications, publicity strategy and key organizational initiatives. In this regard, this position works with other departments to assist in accurate and consistent communication with media and internal and external audiences, including content, marketing and MSG Network. This role will work closely with MSG Sports Communications department in spearheading and executing publicity efforts around the franchise both on and off the ice. Additional responsibilities include managing the process of creating the media guide, coordinating flow of information with NYR content group, and overseeing the game night staff. This position will be expected to travel for a majority of road games with the team.

What will you do?

· Travels to majority of road games and coordinates locker room availability with department head

· Monitors player availability and drafts updates for company executives

· Assist in player and coach media prep and draft media training materials

· Work closely with MSG Sports Communications department in spearheading and executing publicity efforts around the franchise

· Help guide marketing, digital, event presentation, community relations and Garden of Dreams on identifying and coordinating efforts with players

· Identifies human interest features around Rangers staff, coaches and players

· Maintains strong network of contacts in traditional and non-traditional media

· Directs the coordination of credentialing for all home games at Madison Square Garden and manages the press seating chart

· Develops material(s) for press releases, media advisories and general publicity efforts (pitching, securing & tracking media coverage)

· Manage department special events and activities


What do you need to succeed?

· Bachelor’s degree in related field of study

· 7+ years experience in a prior PR or Communications role

· Understanding of media relations and experience dealing with media

· Exemplary verbal and written communications skills

· Proficient in MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook

· Experience in Adobe InDesign a plus

· Experience establishing contacts with media outside sports

· Prior experience in fast paced environment working with tight deadlines

· Flexible hours, including evenings, weekends and holidays
