You will be responsible for assisting the administrative operations for both the Player Development and Scouting departments with a primary focus on travel logistics, MiLB collective bargaining compliance, and amateur scout team operations. In addition, you will serve as a liaison between Accounting, Payroll, People & Culture, and Baseball Operations. You will be based in San Diego, California and will be required to report to Peoria, Arizona as needed for various Baseball Operations meetings and activities.

All the responsibilities we will trust you with:

  • Oversee travel logistics for all Minor League players, field staff, and additional personnel as necessary for in-season minor league player moves, Minor League Spring Training, Instructional League, Post-Draft Minicamp, and end-of-season 
  • Coordinate logistics for club-sponsored amateur scout team endeavors, including travel and lodging accommodations, procuring equipment and uniforms, and relevant invoicing and expense reimbursement
  • Oversee logistics surrounding amateur tryouts and special scouting events, including hotel blocks, travel planning, liability insurance, etc
  • Manage the necessary compliance requirements of the Minor League Collective Bargaining Agreement 
  • Partner with Minor League athletic trainers and UCSD medical staff to schedule doctor appointments and physical examinations and oversee the resulting travel logistics
  • Partner with Medical Administration Coordinator to manage and communicate recurring reviews of player health information relevant to the Rule 4 Draft 
  • Partner with Payroll & Accounting to coordinate minor league player and staff payments such as international and domestic player signing bonuses, incentive bonus plans, expense reports, etc., and provide updated player locations for non-40-man players to assist with paycheck distributions
  • Oversee distribution of per diem, housing stipends, reimbursement, and other small payments for Minor League players and field staff
  • Partner with People & Culture to complete contract signings, I9 forms, W4 forms, insurance enrollment forms, required MLB trainings, etc., and assist Minor League players and staff to resolve any relevant issues
  • Manage the club’s digital collaboration workspace, ensuring all players and staff are registered and have access to appropriate communication channels 
  • Partner with the Professional Development team to assist with personal needs for players and staff, including items such as passports, visas, social security numbers, bank accounts, Continuing Education Plans, etc 
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date contact lists in EBIS and club’s internal records for all players and staff, including phone numbers, email addresses, agent information, and permanent off-season addresses
  • Assist with required BOC tasks related to Rule 4 Draft Operations, including player ID creation, EBIS systems tests, etc
  • Represents the Club in a positive and professional manner at all times
  • Other duties as assigned

Your areas of knowledge and expertise that matter most:

  • Proficient computer skills including experience with MS Office products such as Word, Excel, Outlook, etc., and general knowledge of basic office equipment including copier, laser printer, telephone, and computer
  • Possess strong communication skills, both written and verbal, and effectively work well with others in a collaborative, respectful manner
  • Exceptional time management and organizational skills with capacity to handle high volumes of detailed work, multi-task and manage projects on strict deadlines
  • Maintain professional demeanor with a high degree of discretion, integrity, and accountability
  • Maintain consistent, punctual, and reliable attendance
  • Having previous experience working with MLB’s EBIS platform is a plus, previous experience working in Player Development and/or Amateur Scouting are plusses but not necessary

You will be required to meet the following:

  • Must be at least 18 years of age by the start of employment
  • 4-year Bachelor’s Degree, or education equivalent, preferably in Sports Management or Sports Administration
  • Minimum 1 year previous experience in sports or event management
  • Fluently bilingual in English/Spanish a plus
  • Able to work flexible hours including evenings, weekends, holidays and extended hours as needed
  • Able to travel as needed
  • Minimum physical requirements:  able to travel to and gain access to various areas of the ballpark for prolonged periods of time during games and events; able to lift and transport up to 25 pounds
  • As a condition of employment, you must successfully complete all post-offer, pre-employment requirements, including but not limited to a background check

Salary and additional compensation:

Per the California pay transparency law, the base salary range for this full-time position is $60,000 to $70,000. As a candidate for this position, your salary and related elements of compensation will be contingent upon your work experience, education, job-related skills and any other factors the San Diego Padres considers relevant to the hiring decision for this position.
